Helping with Habitat

The O’Fallon Area Chapter of Lewis & Clark Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to provide high-quality, affordable housing for families who qualify based on need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner.  We have placed six families in homes since 2010, and we are currently building houses for two more families in O’Fallon.  These homes have also served to vitalize city neighborhoods.  We enjoy the support from numerous businesses, churches, community organizations, and volunteers to change lives one house at a time.

Rotary helped the Chapter jump-start its building program in 2016 by running a fund-raiser that set us on our current course of building one house per year.  This year, however, due to a great need in our community we are building two houses instead of one.  With the additional house, we faced a financial challenge. Fortunately, the Rotary Club of O’Fallon came through with additional funding of $5,000 to help us meet our expenses. What’s more, Rotary District 6510 chipped in another $2,500 in a form of a grant. This extra $7,500 allowed us to purchase heating and air conditioning units for the houses under construction.

Ties remain strong between the Rotary Club and Habitat with four members of the Rotary Club of O’Fallon currently serving on the O’Fallon Area Chapter Board. Those members are also intimately involved in day-to-day construction for these projects.
