Evening Social: Test Drive

On January 18, 2023 our club launched an Evening Social pilot program. Traditionally, our club meets at Noon on Mondays at the Katy Cavins Center in O’Fallon’s beautiful Community Park. That meeting time and place served us well for many years, but we know it isn’t for everyone. The middle of the working day, especially on a Monday, can be hard for many folks to get to. Retirees and folks who are their own boss have an easier time with this setup, but as Rotarians, we want to cast the widest net possible. We don’t want to lose or fail to attract a great member because of a cumbersome meeting time. After all, the meetings are just one component of Rotary (spoiler, they aren’t even the most important part of the club).

To combat this, we are converting one of our regular Monday meetings each month to an Evening Social. These socials have three main focusses:

  1. Service existing members by getting us out of our routines

  2. Reengage members who can’t make Monday meetings on the regular

  3. Attract new members and increase our profile in the community

We are committed to this model through June of 2023. If it is going well, we’ll continue it beyond that initial trial period. Our first stop was at Global Brew and it was a tremendous success with roughly 35 attending, including some new prospective members. We hope to identify some additional venues and rotate through them in the coming months.

If you are “Rotary Curious,” feel free to crash one of these upcoming socials to dip your toe in the water. You’ll meet a great group people and will likely get a free drink out of it. Keep an eye on our Calendar for details concerning upcoming events.

We hope to see you there,

Ryan Johnson
Vice-President
